How skill is estimated

Pickleball estimate

Range

1 – 5.5

Method

Singles and doubles kept as separate tracks; each player moves by a capped step scaled by the surprise in the result.

What we capture

Game scores to 11, win by two; one entry, opponents confirm.

How it updates

Side strength is the mean of the two estimates; the win chance comes from the difference, and everyone on a side moves by the same capped step.

First games

Four experience answers may seed hidden starting values (1.5 / 2.5 / 3.25 / 4.25); eligible casual placement counts at half weight.

Placement question

Which can you do consistently in a normal game? — still learning serve and score / keep rallies going / control dinks and drops / attack and defend under pressure.

Honesty about the number

What this rating is, and what it isn't

Where no universal amateur scale exists, MeetYourMatch says so rather than inventing one.

Benchmark

USA Pickleball skill-level vocabulary — as vocabulary only, not a calculation

1.0–5.5 is a deliberately amateur range. This is not a DUPR clone and must never qualify anyone for a DUPR-only bracket.

Open decisions

Fixed partners and improving players both degrade the estimate badly; a closed group of friends cannot be located on a public scale at all.

Status: Needs real-match testing.

Handicap: Points of start

Three points of start in a game to 11 — tested, and not an equaliser.

Manual agreement only; handicapped games stay out of placement and public estimates.

What it costs to play

Illustrative MeetYourMatch service fee for Pickleball: £5.40 per player, against a planned average of £4.50 per player per game.

The MeetYourMatch service fee covers matchmaking and booking coordination. Each player pays their own. The approved assumption is an average of £4.50 per player per game; actual per-game and per-city rates are still to be set, and the amounts shown here are illustrative demo prices. Anything the venue charges — table or court time, any minimum spend — is separate from this fee.
