How skill is estimated

Rack strength

Range

0 – 1000

Method

A rack win chance on a doubling scale, resolved properly for the race length so a race to seven keeps its own shape.

What we capture

Discipline, rulebook version, table size, break policy, race target, final rack score and winner.

How it updates

The outcome, not the margin, drives the skill update; the rack score validates completion and feeds an evidence count.

First games

Three answers may seed broad centres of 250 / 400 / 550 (skip: 400) with wide uncertainty. Design assumptions, not a published mapping.

Placement question

In 8-ball, how often can you clear your remaining balls and the 8 in one visit from a reasonable opening? — never / occasionally / regularly / skip.

Honesty about the number

What this rating is, and what it isn't

Where no universal amateur scale exists, MeetYourMatch says so rather than inventing one.

Benchmark

FargoRate-style logarithmic rack strength

FargoRate fits everybody at once and treats ~200 games as an established rating. Three Meet Your Match matches are emphatically not that standard.

Status: Needs real-match testing.

Handicap: Unequal race

Race to 5 against race to 3 — the game's own native handicap, agreed manually.

Unequal races, agreed manually and kept entirely out of the rated track.

What it costs to play

Illustrative MeetYourMatch service fee for Pool: £3.60 per player, against a planned average of £4.50 per player per game.

The MeetYourMatch service fee covers matchmaking and booking coordination. Each player pays their own. The approved assumption is an average of £4.50 per player per game; actual per-game and per-city rates are still to be set, and the amounts shown here are illustrative demo prices. Anything the venue charges — table or court time, any minimum spend — is separate from this fee.
